Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong will star in the big screen version of American Idiot, which will be adapted from the Broadway musical of the same name, which was based on the pop punk band's album. Much of the stage cast will remain in place, as director Michael Mayer, who helmed the stage version, will also direct the movie.
Armstrong will reprise his Broadway role as St. Jimmy in the movie version.
The film is due in 2013.
