Alta Pauline “Polly” Jackson Urone June 30, 1933 – July 1, 2012, Resident of Vallejo

The sky grew a little brighter with the arrival of a new star - Alta Pauline “Polly” Jackson Urone passed away peacefully on July 1, 2012. As in life, she was surrounded by her loved ones and departed this earth with grace and dignity.

Born in Sperry, OK on June 30, 1933, Polly migrated with her large family to Richmond, CA during World War II. She spent the last 34 years of her life as a resident of Vallejo, CA.

Polly started her lifelong career as a waitress and bartender in the 1950s as a car-hop at the Original Mel’s Drive-in in Berkeley. Throughout the years she was a customer favorite at Gaylens Restaurant, Rod’s Hickory Pit, the Embers and Ricky’s Corner. Retirement was not for Polly and until her diagnosis 3 months ago you could find her bright eyes and smiling face behind the bar at Franklin Canyon Golf Course.

Polly was an avid golfer who played a round of golf 5 days before her surgery. She was a fantastic swing dancer and an excellent cook famous for her homemade chili. She loved all types of music from country to big band but had a soft spot for her nephew Billie Joe Armstrong’s band Green Day. She attended his concerts all over the country proudly wearing her VIP pass. She fished and camped along the Klamath River and always looked forward to vacations to exotic locales like Mexico and Costa Rica with her grandkids.
Polly’s greatest roles were as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was always loving, generous and kind to her family and friends and even to strangers. She was known for her flirty, playful ways, her glamorous fashion style, quickness to laughter, and a natural ability to make those around her to feel loved and important. People fell in love with her the moment they met her.
Polly is survived by her treasured son Mitch Martinez and loving daughter-in-law Tawyna, Grandsons Jeremy Martinez and his wife, Melissa, Jimmy Ray Martinez and his wife, Janelle, Anthony Martinez and his fiancé, Helen, and Jesse & Alex Martinez, Great Grandchildren David and Carley, Sisters Jessie Hughes, JoAnna York, Ollie Armstrong and Julia Stephenson, Dancing Partner Frenchy Martinez, Goddaughter Hollie Armstrong, The Birthday Girls, her wonderful Vallejo neighbors, and scores of nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Polly is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Urone, Parents Alta May and Jay Jackson, Brothers Ewing, Wallace, Billie, Curtis, Stonewall and Little Jay, and Sister Evelyn Winona.

Gifts in Polly’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
